Résumé de la thèse

My research project is part of the ongoing Horizon 2020 project named SIGN-HUB.

I will analyze from a sociological and sociolinguistic perspective the 28 semi-structured interviews made in Italy to elderly Deaf signers by comparing them to the same kind of interviews made in the partner countries of the project (Germany, The Netherlands, Spain, Turkey, France and Israel).

The goal of this part of the project is to document and preserve the linguistic and cultural heritage of elderly deaf people in Europe.

This research will focus on these four main topics:

1. Sociolinguistics variation in LIS from a diachronic and diatopic (different schools, same country) perspective.

2. Sociological traits of the Italian elder Deaf community – analysis of the cultural heritage and historical memories of the Deaf people interviewed.

3. Italian Deaf attitudes towards Deaf people from other countries or religions, gender, sex orientation – how are the relations between minorities within a minority.

4. Comparison with other elderly Deaf communities studied in the Sign-Hub project.
